I have had a passion for teaching since my youth here in Delmar, NY, and can remember emulating my favorite teachers at Hamagrael Elementary, just trying to sound right! I attended Hudson Valley Community College as a first step toward learning how to become an effective teacher, and it was during these years that I really became drawn to educating young children. Those early experiences as a student teacher in the college lab school setting solidified my desire to continue learning, which led me to Boston, to attend Wheelock College, where I attained a BS in Early Childhood Education, and continued onto graduate training at Mills College in Oakland, CA, where I attained an MA in Early/Elementary Education.
My teaching expertise is with children from birth through age six. One very exciting aspect of The Bethlehem Children’s School’s primary program is the multi-age grouping. I enjoy the opportunity to work with a core group of children across a range of topics and depth, and the potential to remain as a consistent educator for them over the course of their years at the school.
Professionally, my interests focus on constructing curriculum with the children and documenting their work through illustration and words. The process of children learning to read, write, and figure out numbers always amazes and delights me. Children have a voice in the classroom, and we base our learning on ‘What do we know, information we would like to know, and what we have learned’. Your child will make their first friendships in the primary program, and I look forward to helping them navigate these relationships in the classroom and with the larger community here at BCS.
When I’m not in the classroom, my time is spent being a mother to my own four children. I love the Adirondacks, walking long distances, watching youth hockey games, and I am a big fan of coffee! I am looking forward to working with your children at Bethlehem Children’s School.
